Duvel Moortgat Brewery was founded in 1871 in Breendonk, Belgium by Jean-Leonard Moortgat, a descendent of a long line of Belgian brewers. Following World War I, Belgium was brought into contact with Britain in a way never seen before. As a result, Albert Moortgat obtained a British yeast strain that is still used by Duvel today. To commemorate the Allies’ victory, Duvel produced Victory Ale in the style of an English Ale. In 1960, the next generation of Moortgat’s continued to innovate by being the first to make a tulip-shaped glass specifically for a beer. To this day Duvel remains committed to breakthroughs in beer and glassware, and produces specialty brews and limited edition glasses by pairing up with artists such as Yan Sorgi and Philippe Debongnie regularly. Enjoyed in over 60 countries worldwide, Duvel bridges the gap between tradition and innovation by never being afraid to try something new, and never forgetting where they came from. That is why, around the world, Duvel is the standard for Belgian beer.
