961 Beer was founded by in 2006 as an experiment, “Beer is an important part of human civilization: we first emerged from our caves 10,000 years ago when we domesticated barley, not for bread, but for beer.” Tired with the lack of quality beer in Lebanon, Mazen Hajjar and his friends started to brew beer in his very own kitchen. Hajjar was inspired by Brooklyn Brewery’s Steve Hindy and his autobiography, Beer School. 961 insists upon making beer using traditional techniques, quality ingredients and 961’s favorite ingredient: love. Believing that there is no right or wrong way to brew beer, just the artisanal approach and the industrial approach, and even though 961 produces over 300,000 cases of beer annually, it still uses the artisanal approach, as it always will. 961 believes in brewing the absolute best beer they possibly can, and having fun while doing it, because life is too short to drink bad beer.
