After running a beer distribution company for 19 years, Don Vultaggio and John Ferolito decided to jump headfirst into the tea business in 1990. By 1992, the first bottles of AriZona hit the shelves in New York City. These uniquely tall cans literally stood head and shoulders above the rest. Immediately, John and Don had a hit on their hands. In less than 15 years, AriZona Iced Tea has become the #1 ready-to-drink tea in the United States. They’ve done this by consistently beating up on some of the world’s heavyweight corporations like Pepsi and Unilever (Lipton), Coca-Cola (Nestea) and Cadbury-Schweppes (Snapple). Not too bad for two guys from Brooklyn. We make stuff we’d want to drink ourselves. As a small, privately held company, we don’t have to bow to the pressure of Wall Street types to reach for higher profits (and lower quality).
