The first Czechvar (a combination of the words Czech and Pivovar, which means “brewery”) brewery was founded on April 15, 1895. This capitalized on the over 600 years of brewing tradition in Bohemia at that time, dating back to 1265 when the city of České Budějovice was founded. In its first year of production, the brewery produced over 43,000 barrels of beer, for local consumption and export. However it is more than just hundreds of years of tradition and know-how that makes Czechvar beer great, it is also the combination of ingredients. Czechvar uses their own unique yeast culture, along with Moravian barley and a 90-day lagering period to achieve a smooth taste that cannot be imitated. Czechvar beers have been winning awards virtually since their inception; taking home the gold medal in Stuttgart in 1897 from the Alimentary Exhibition, the gold medal in Wels in 1966 from the International Trade Fair, and taking two gold medals in Portugal in 2001 from the 40th World Quality Selections Competition. For over 100 years Czechvar has been brewing award-winning beer, to the delight of everyone within reach.
