Flossmoor Station Brewing Co. is truly the product of a labor of love. Husband and wife Dean and Carolyn Armstrong are natives of Flossmoor, Illinois, and watched as over the years the old Flossmoor Station deteriorated. After going on a vacation where the Armstrongs visited a microbrewery housed in an old and repurposed building, Dean and Carolyn decided that they wanted a brewery of their own. They immediately set about acquiring the old stationhouse and renovating it. After opening up their doors in 1996, the community of Flossmoor reacted positively to the new “public house” in their midst, and today Flossmoor Station is a gathering place and crossroads for the whole community. Locals weren’t the only ones to be impressed; in 2010 Flossmoor’s Bourbon McElroy took Best in Show at Day and Night of Living Ales. Flossmoor Station’s beers have also taken home over 20 awards from the Great American Beer Festival. Dean and Carolyn Armstrong have been able to realize their dream, and what’s more, they’ve been able to share it with everyone, and today Flossmoor Station is more synonymous with beer than trains in Chicago.
