Kona Brewing Company was started in 1994 by father and son team Cameron Healy and Spoon Khalsa, who had a commitment to making great, Hawaii-inspired beer, and a commitment to the pristine nature of Hawaii itself. Located on Hawaii’s Big Island, Kona has always been committed to its community, and has been involved in the Sierra Club’s Blue Water Campaign, the Kokua Festival, as well as the Kona Brewers Festival which has raised more than $350,000 for environmental organizations. Kona is also dedicated to sustainability, and uses a photovoltaic system mounted on its roof to offset approximately 60% of its daily electricity usage. From its Fire Rock Pale Ale, a crisp, refreshing “Hawaiian-style” pale ale with a citrus-floral hop aroma to its Big Wave Golden Ale, which uses caramel malt and has a tropical hop aroma and flavor, Kona knows how to brew truly Hawaiian beer. Today Kona beers are available in 36 states and 9 countries, so people from all over can taste a bit of what makes Hawaii so special.
