Sprecher Brewery was founded in 1985 in Glendale, Wisconsin by Randal Sprecher. Randal, a California native had worked as a brewer for Pabst in Milwaukee for four years when he decided he wanted to open his own brewery that could focus more on small-batch beverages. In its first 10 years of operation, the brewery steadily gained a local following for its craft beers and premium sodas that made use of local ingredients. In 1994, demand had exceeded production so Sprecher relocated to a larger operation, still located in Glendale.
The increased production capacity meant that the brewery could produce quality beers and sodas for more than just the Wisconsin market, and within a decade Sprecher was enjoyed all over America. Using quality extracts as the cornerstone of their premium sodas, all extracts are prepared at the brewery in a hand-made, gas-fired brew kettle, by combining the best local ingredients to create extracts that capture the essence of a given taste profile. In 2004, Sprecher won Small Brewing Company of the Year honors at the Great American Beer Festival, cementing its status as one of the premiere microbreweries not just in Wisconsin, but in the United States.
