Yuengling Brewery, founded in 1892, is the oldest operating brewery in the United States. Headquartered in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, Yuengling has an annual production of 2.5 million barrels, making it one of the largest American breweries in the east coast. Passed down through the family, today it is Richard Yuengling Jr. that owns the brewery and continues his family’s legacy. David Gottlob Jungling immigrated to the United States in 1823 from a suburb of Stuttgart, changing his name to Yuengling when he arrived in the U.S. After a century of brewing, Yuengling made near-beer (0.5% alcohol-by-volume) during Prohibition, and when it was repealed in 1933 sent President Roosevelt a truckload of “Winner Beer.” Today, after more than 170 years, Yuengling continues to bring quality beer to market while honoring its proud and storied tradition as the oldest operating brewery in the United States.
