The final season of Game of Thrones comes out this month and that means a new Game of Thrones-inspired beer from our friends at Brewery Ommegang. For the Throne is a strong golden ale that's co-fermented with Pinot Grigio and Viognier grape juices, then bottle conditioned with Champagne yeast. It's a beer that deserves a grand party, Westeros style.
If you've been to previous Ommegang release parties like this one or this one, you know it's a good time. And this year is no exception. Brewery Ommegang is teaming up with the Chicago Brewseum and the Chicago Athletic Association to bring a unique perspective of beer and history to the table.
A $30 ticket grants you:
Historians Corner: Liz Garibay of the Chicago Brewseum and Lucas Livingston of the Art Institute of Chicago will offer brief 10 minute history talks that explore Medieval era drinking culture.
7-8pm:
Themed String Quartet: Chicago-based musicians of Parkwest Strings amplify the evening with a performance of the series’ thematic score.
8-9pm:
Trivia: Think you know Game of Thrones? Test your knowledge with themed trivia hosted by Whaddyaknow? Free Pub Trivia. Please limit teams to 6 people.
9pm onward:
Costume Contest: Festive attire welcome, and encouraged. A costume contest, with prizes, will conclude the evening.
For the Throne is a strong golden ale co-fermented with Pinot Grigio and Viognier grape juices, then bottle conditioned with Champagne yeast. The beer pours a striking golden copper with a fluffy white head. Aromas of honeysuckle and toasted grain mingle with notes of pear and apricot. The finish is clean and dry, with vibrant effervescence. For the Throne is an ale fit for royalty.
