It’s that time of the year again! The holidays are here again, and with that – so is Chicago Botanic Garden’s Lightscape – for its fourth consecutive year. Sponsored by Goose Island Beer Co. and Cutwater Cocktails, Lightscape is a beautiful winter trail combined with breathtaking artistic light installations and festive music. But I really can’t put into words how amazing the Lightscape experience is.

This year was my very first visit to Lightscape, and trust me, you have to see it to believe it. Make sure you bring your walking shoes because you’ll be doing plenty of it. I went around the path three times and met my 10k step goal in 2 hours. At the same time, I completely lost track of time staring at the lights so I didn’t even realize it.

In addition, there’s several beverage stations along the path for you to rest, recharge, and enjoy your favorite drinks, such as a Goose Island Beer or a Cutwater Espresso Martini or White Russian cocktail! Personally I enjoyed a Cutwater White Russian while losing myself in the dazzling lights. It was the perfect companion to a winter stroll, but there were plenty of folks around me that preferred being wrapped up in a Goose Island Beer Hug while enjoying Lightscape.

I think my favorite of the light pieces was “Singing Trees”, huge fir trees that also served as a visualizer to the beautiful carols that played in the background. Going through the famous “Winter Cathedral” was mesmerizing, as I was lost in the lighting so much that I accidentally bumped into some folks ahead of me once or twice.

The best part of Lightscape is that it isn’t just a one and done deal. You leave wanting to come back. Whether that’s with friends, family, during their different themed nights – the idea of going back when there’s fresh snow on the ground is exciting. So, I think this first timer is going to be a recurring visitor this holiday season. The magic makes me want to share it with as many people as possible – and I think that’s the perfect way to spend the holidays.
