Andrew Maxson of the Brooklyn Brewery recently sat down with me to talk about a flight night he’ll be hosting on Tuesday, 10/21 at Dusek’s. The night will feature three very special beers, including Brooklyn Sorachi Ace, Brooklyn Silver Anniversary Lager and Brooklyn Companion.

In addition to flights of these extremely limited Brooklyn offerings (we’ll get to that in a second), Andrew will be giving away glassware and holding a raffle for Brooklyn prizes including a copy of The Oxford Companion to Beer, edited by Brewmaster Garrett Oliver.

An essential addition to any craft beer lover’s library, the book covers everything from the agricultural makeup of various beers to the technical elements of the brewing process, local effects of brewing on regions around the world, and the social and political implications of sharing a beer. In other words, if you love beer, you should have this book.

Brooklyn Silver Anniversary Lager was brewed as a celebration of the brewery’s 25th anniversary in January of 2013. “We’ve been making beer in New York since 1988” says Andrews, “to celebrate those beginnings, this beer is an intensified version of our Brooklyn Lager; which is still the majority of our production.”

“It’s a double hop bill, double grain bill, double ABV, bottle re-fermented version of Brooklyn Lager. So it’s a dobbelbach that has then been aged for 2 years.”

As for availability, Andrew tells us that this flight night is really the last of its kind. “If you’ve never had it before, this is probably your last opportunity to try it on draft — it’s one of two remaining barrels of Silver Anniversary in Chicago!”

Food Pairing Suggestions: I would pair Silver Anniversary with roasted pork, grilled meats or pork, or cheeses like gruyere or parmesan origiano.
