Last night, the Lakeshore Beverage team spent some quality time in Pilsen at the Brooklyn Brewery Flight Night at Dusek’s.
The food was delicious, as always, and the atmosphere was perfectly suited to a cold, “hey, I guess Winter IS coming” Tuesday evening. But the real star was The Companion, a three-year aged wheat wine, poured from the last barrel of the beer on earth.
Originally brewed as the companion beer to the Oxford Companion to Beer by Garret Oliver, the beer was thought to be extinct but recently resurfaced and poured at this once-in-a-lifetime flight night. It features a juicy malt character and a surprising lightness on the palate with a gentle fruitiness.
Guests who ordered the flight were treated to three wonderful food pairings, each complimenting and highlighting the flavor profiles in their accompanying beer.
Here were the pairings, from left to right:
Brooklyn Anniversary Ale Paired With Brandade Fritter, Preserved Lemon, Romesco Sauce.
Brooklyn Brewery Sorachi Ace Paired With Soft Boiled Egg, Chorizo Viniagrette, Spanish Anchovy.
Brooklyn Brewery The Companion Paired With Confit Oyster Mushroom, Black Olive Tapenade.
We finished the evening with a tour of Dusek’s sister venue, Thalia Hall. Just, you know, because.
