Summer is great — we can all agree on that. But we think there’s a lot to be said for fall. Apple picking, pumpkin carving, light jackets — oh, and fall beer. Yes, pumpkin beers are on the shelves, but there’s more to it than just that. It could be called the best time to drink beer: richer, spicier and warmer flavors and more complex beers are here!
Below are some of our favorite beers that, once it hits your lips, you start seeing red, orange and yellow leaves and you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror and you’re wearing flannel. Embrace autumn, everyone.
Goose Island Autumn Ale
Red Ale | ABV 6.7%
Goose Island Autumn Ale is like autumn in a glass. It pours a rich red-brown, offers a piney aroma and has spicy hop flavors & a dry finish to please the palate. It’s an enjoyable ale to ease your way into fall.
Founders Breakfast Stout
Imperial Stout | ABV 8.3%
The coffee lover’s ultimate beer. Breakfast Stout is brewed with flaked oats, bitter and imported chocolates, and two types of coffee. It has an intense fresh-roasted java nose topped with a frothy, cinnamon-colored head.
SweetWater Brewing Hash Brown
Brown Ale | ABV 6.2%
A relative of SweetWater’s Hop Hash, Hash Brown hits you with a burst of citrusy hops and then soothes you with notes of chocolate and caramel. They fired up the skillet to 420° (obviously) and, in their words: threw in a sizzling concoction of a variety of malts, then added in a hefty dose of hop hash and other dank-ish-ish-ish fixin’s to scatter, smother and cover this baby all the way.
Tallgrass Brewing Zombie Monkie
Porter | ABV 6.2%
Zombie Monkie is a dark, rich porter. It’s crafted with lots of roasty dark chocolate and specialty malts, then inoculated with enough hops to add a floral/citrus character in the finish. It’s hardy, complex, and enough to satisfy your porter cravings.
Bell’s Best Brown Ale
Brown Ale | ABV 5.8%
Cozy up with this toasty brown ale, with its nutty caramel and cocoa aroma and enough hops to stand up to the cooler weather. But don’t let that fool you, this isn’t a heavy beer. It’s a smooth, refreshing fall beer that is a beautiful, deep ruby color that, quite honestly, should be enjoyed next to the fireplace.
