It’s hard to believe a city like Chicago, with its storied history and prominent food culture, has never had a pizza festival. Ever.
“This is one of the best pizza cities in the entire country, let alone the world,” says Anthony Spina, Brand Manager for Old Style Beer. “You could try a different pizza place in Chicago everyday for a year and never run out. It’s unbelievable.”
Thanks to everyone who made it out for our 3 Sheeps Brewing “Beat the Brewer” event at WhirlyBall! When we weren’t incessantly running into each other with bumper cars, we took time to enjoy some rare beers from 3 Sheeps including the ghost pepper infused, Hoppy Spice.
We had a blast welcoming Brooklyn Brewery’s New York Comic Con collaboration beer, Defender IPA to Chicago. We celebrated the release in style at the one-and-only Rotofugi Gallery with tunes from Cage & Aquarium, custom comic book portraits from artist Kat Janda, a raffle for some awesome artwork by Khary Randolph and of course, killer beer.
The 13th annual Festival of Barrel Aged Beers (FoBAB) was this past weekend at the UIC Forum. This festival for strong, delicious, barrel aged beers, put on by the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild (ICBG), boasted 363 beers from 157 breweries. We had a few friends pouring beers over the weekend: 3 Sheeps Brewing Co., Against the Grain Brewery, Atlas Brewing Company, Bell’s Brewery, Brooklyn Brewery, Central Waters Brewing Company, Goose Island Beer Co, MKE Brewing Co., Moody Tongue Brewing Company, Schlafly Beer, Sweetwater Brewing Company, Tallgrass Brewing, Upland Brewing Co., Virtue Cider and Widmer Brothers Brewing.
Congratulations to our friends who won some shiny hardware at FoBAB: Bell’s Brewery Expedition Stout – Silver in Strong Porter/Stout, Goose Island Brewpub Cherry Run – Silver in Fruit Beer, MKE Brewing Gin Barrel Aged O-Gii – Gold in Specialty/Experimental, and Virtue Cider Percheron – Gold in Cider/Perry/Mead.
A big thank you to the Guild for putting on such a solid beer festival year after year, to the breweries for creating delicious beers and to the people who volunteered their time over the weekend to make this fest such a success. Cheers to next year!
To celebrate the return of the Game of Thrones-inspired Iron Throne Blonde Ale and Three-Eyed Raven Dark Saison, Brewery Ommegang held a fit feast for a king at Kaiser Tiger. There was a costume contest hosted by the one-and-only Geek Girl Chicago, a raffle, a plethora of tasty bites and live “‘Thrones Yourself” portraits by Chicago artist, Daniel Warren Johnson. It was a good time. Read More
This year, we celebrated Halloween in style. 3 Sheeps Brewing Company joined us at The Logan Theatre for a zombie-sheep themed beer party, complete with a costume contest, raffle, plenty of beer and a screening of the zombie sheep movie, Black Sheep.
3 Sheeps even made a custom beer for the night called Violence of the Lambs, a blood red amber ale with pomegranates. Read More
